ROME, GATHERING SPIRITUAL .....

Sunday  8 October and a large group of men are carrying something very heavy down a closed off Corso Vittorio Emanuele.  In front of them, walking backwards, are white shawled ladies burning incense.  Behind is an Alpino brass band playing slow music.  Every few meters the load has to be put down to allow the bearers to rest, the band members to have a cigarette, and the ladies to wipe their incense afflicted eyes.  What could it be ??

Dom P's arrival in Rome was accompanied by a demo round the corner in the tiny little part of the Piazza Monte Citorio (at the back of the Parliament) allocated for that purpose.

A loudly amplified Andean Flute played "Santa Claus is Coming Tonight" and Jingle Bells" repeatedly whilst everyone else chatted, blew whistles and smoked cigarettes and cigars.
